3 of my easy toddler tips for bedtime, that many parents don't know.
Which of Katie's service options would be the best for us?
More information can be found on the booking pages, however, who wants to read and compare if there's a 3 minute video that does the work for you, right??
Inconsistency - a common cause of night waking in toddlers.
If you toddler needs lots of help to resettle during the night, have a look at bedtime. Perhaps its quick and perhaps it's easy rocking them to sleep when it only takes 5 mins, but remember, they will have less sleep pressure as the night wears on, and so resettling may get more difficult.
Here's a few gentle tips if night times are taking their toll on you.
What's a post-partum doula? Should you hire one or would you like to become one?!
Here I interview Julia Jones, my friend, mentor and the founder of Newborn Mothers, post-partum doula training.
How do overnight consultations work
This is a question I receive all the time...not only from clients but from friends and family too.
Well it does seem a bit weird I suppose!!
Sleep Coaxing Versus sleep training
This is how I like to help the tiny-tots enjoy longer easier naps. Its not a quick fix of course, but gentle approaches rarely are. Here I explain how small changes may require extra patience yet no extra tears.
Sleep & sickness
This does not have to be the undoing of all your child's new sleep skills!
Sleep Props
Mainly dummies again, actually. How to reduce the use and create more sleep confidence for our little ones. No need to drop something cold-turkey if its working for you, in some ways at least.
Short Naps
I get asked about these all the time; how to manage them, whether they are harmful.
The truth is, they are not at all harmful and despite being annoying, they are not a sign that you or your baby are doing anything wrong. If your baby is happy, healthy and sleeping well at night then you don't need to change a thing.
Sleep Regressions
I get asked about these all the time, too; how to manage them, how to avoid them, etc. The trouble is, I don't really buy into all that, I'm afraid. It's rare for anything to regress in childhood and though sleep may appear to suffer at various stages, its simply nature's hand, ensuring that your child is always developing and growing as they're supposed to. My advice: lean in and embrace the journey!
Ditching the dummy.
This can be a complex situation for older toddlers and pre-schoolers. Yet, love them or loathe them, we have to ditch dummies eventually and honesty is always the best policy, in my opinion. Invite your child to problem-solve the situation with you. You might be pleasantly surprised about how easy it can be.
Let partners help.
If partners are willing and able, let them step up and take the lead with your child's sleep, even if they don't do things exactly the way you might. We all need back-up sometimes.
Is sleep really the problem?
So often I hear from couples who believe they are on the verge of a break-up all because of their children's sleep.
What's your end game?
I ask all my clients to give me a list of sleep aims when they begin working with me. Its always interesting to watch these aims shift and grow.
Breastfeeding to sleep.
Nature's gift to tired parents! But how to stop, if it begins to feel like a burden or you're simply looking for your baby to upskill in the falling asleep department.
Why my services do NOT include a 'Sibling package'
As a holistic sleep practitioner, I already consider the sleep of other family members and siblings when problem solving with my clients. With 2 months of standard follow up, we have plenty of time to address the sleep needs of more than one child.
This does not incur an extra charge.
