Resources and Services. 7-9 months.

Let me guess...

7 to 9 months can be a confusing age. It's a whirlwind time of discoveries and emotions. Your little one is still your adorable baby, but you're starting to notice those first hints of toddler sass creeping in, right?

Are they starting to get impatient if you're not quick enough with their food? Their newfound insistence is all part of the fun.

And then there's nap time... has it become a battleground? Maybe you're starting to worry that they're always overtired, and you're in a constant race to catch up on lost sleep?

Perhaps persistent cat napping is a regular obstacle for you?

Will they only fall asleep or link sleep cycles in your arms or while being fed?

Are you feeling the annoyance of being nap-trapped in the day with no time to yourself in the evening either?

Or perhaps they're resisting naps or refusing the afternoon one completely?

And then there's night time still to contend with. Are you struggling to get them to stay in their cot all night?

Or perhaps you enjoy the co-sleeping but you're not so keen on the all the all-night milk fest that's been going on lately.

Perhaps your little one has no interest in breakfast because they've been feasting on milk all night?

These are just a few of the reasons that parents reach out to me for support with infant sleep between 7-9 months.  If this sounds like your situation read on.  Let me help you to make sense of it all.

Are you looking for attachment focused, common sense & evidence based reassurance concerning your baby's sleep?  If so, you're in the right place.

If you are local to Melbourne bayside or the Mornington Peninsula area, why not come and meet me at the Frankston South Early Parenting drop-in group.

Free support with pregnancy/postpartum health questions, feeding, infant sleep & more.  Here I join a dedicated team of fellow volunteers, including professionals in midwifery, lactation consulting, social work, sleep consulting, massage, yoga, and sometimes even car seat safety.

Why not come and pick my brain.

Need help with extra night waking? Maybe you'd love some ideas for easing away from rocking your little one to sleep now they're getting bigger? Perhaps you'd like to see night feeds reduce a little now they've started on solids? If so...drop-in and tell me all about it.  We'd love to see you.

Tuesdays 11.30 to 2pm,

Frankston South Community and Recreation Centre

Unit 2/55 Towerhill Rd,

Ideal if you are experiencing sleep challenges that have been the main event for a few weeks or more with your 7 to 9mo. Let me help you with the overwhelm by breaking down your goals into a gradual process of small achievable steps.

Reliable and nurturing support. For regular reassurance with normal infant behaviour and development, or attachment-conscious solutions for troubling sleep challenges of babyhood.

Ideal for...

  • working on increasing your baby's nap length.  Catnapping is a common activity of babies between 7-9 months. Often simple changes to the daytime routine can improve this.

  • those parents who are keen to move away from contact naps or rocking their babies to sleep.  This is a healthy and normal part of parenthood, but lets face it, not always convenient.  Let me help you to coax some gradual changes without resorting to sleep training tactics that don't sit well with you.

  • parents who feel that their baby is always fighting sleep.  Understand your child's changing sleep needs & development. Learn how and how they can impact your child's needs and sensory preferences at sleep time.

  • support with managing excessive or increasing night wakes. Though your baby may not be quite ready to sleep through the night just yet, keeping those wakes and disturbances to a minimum can help make all the difference when parents are struggling with sleep deprivation.

Its hard to see a way forward when you're in the trenches of exhaustion. Let me point you in the direction of predictable daily rhythms and less disturbed nights.

With easy to follow steps, I will support you in creating a playful and light approach to improving sleep that feels kind and respectful to your child's emotional needs, while building their confidence and contentment at sleep time. This is not a one size fits all approach.  Together we will come up with an approach just for you and the needs of your baby.

You will not be required to follow any strict routines and you will always in charge of the process. If something is not working for you there is always more than one way of achieving goals. Communication and creativity are key in working things out together.

All emotions, lovingly supported. I DO NOT teach  spaced soothing, timed responses or cry it out methods. Safe co-sleeping & attachment parenting practices welcomed and supported.

Ideal if night time challenges are the main event for you and your baby.  Would you like me to come and witness your baby's overnight sleep struggles, first-hand?

  • Does your baby wake multiple times during the night?

  • Are they feeding every hour or two?

  • Are they taking hours to resettle?

  • Are you wearing a groove in your carpet walking back and forth from your own bed to your baby's?

  • Or do they start the day well before the crack of dawn?

  • Would you like a real-life person next to you, to help you work out what's going on?

These are just a few of the reasons why some parents opt for an overnight consultation.

Though I have every faith in my standard distance support, there are always benefits in seeing the situation first hand, such as...

  • I can meet you & your baby and get to know you all on a personal level

  • I can also get a good sense of family dynamics

  • On a practical level I get to see the layout of your home and furniture, which can be helpful when deciding how to optimise sleep for parents. Different sleep arrangements can be a game changer!

  • If you're feeling anxious at the prospect of making changes I will be a calm presence to help you regulate your own energy so you can then effectively soothe and regulate your baby's energy too.

How does it work?

As with the Evening visit, I always aim to arrive between 30-60mins before bedtime so I can join in with your familiar bedtime routine.  During this time you can share your questions and concerns and I can share any observations or suggestions for easing your child's bedtime wind-down.

In many cases a few changes at bedtime can be the missing link when trying to limit disturbance to night time sleep.  Taking the mystery out of how sleep happens and inviting your baby to explore new possibilities for accessing sleep with your continued presence and affection can be a beautiful journey of discovery.

All emotions, lovingly supported. I DO NOT teach spaced soothing, timed responses or cry it out methods.  Safe co-sleeping & attachment parenting practices welcomed and supported.

What happens once your baby is asleep?

Once your baby has settled off to sleep we can then chat about our objectives for the night and our plans for feeding, resettling or sleep arrangements for when your baby wakes.  You are still in charge at all times.  My role is to support you in finding the most suitable approach for your family.  I will offer my observations on the aspects that are working well and any that may not be working to your advantage.  I can then offer various suggestions for sleep arrangements and settling insights as we work together on optimising your baby's confidence and contentment when it comes to falling asleep and resettling with ease if disturbed in the night.

Package inclusions:

  • Pre-consult intake questionnaire
  • Access to privately shared Google documentation for ongoing summary notes, recommendations and record of progress
  • PDF resources
  • 8 weeks of phone/email follow-up (business hours only).
  • Permanent membership to Facebook community

Ideal if evenings and bedtimes are the most challenging time for you and your 7-9mo baby.  Would you like me to come and witness your bedtime struggles first-hand?  We can explore your child's well being, sleep patterns and stage of development, together while creating a bedtime plan that aligns with your aims, values and parenting style.  I'll also make sure that your little one can grow to love the new rituals as much as you do. Play is the all important factor we cannot overlook.

Overnight strategies and daytime routines, also covered during my visit.

How it works...

I will aim to arrive at your home around 30 to 60 mins prior to your baby's bedtime so I can join in with your familiar bedtime routine.  During this time you can share your questions and concerns and I can share any observations or suggestions for easing your child's bedtime wind-down.  In my experience, most parents do a wonderful job at bedtime already.  A few simple shifts in sensory activities, sleep arrangements or levels of connection are often all that is required to help sleep time feel more enjoyable for everyone.

All emotions, lovingly supported. I DO NOT teach spaced soothing, timed responses or cry it out methods. Safe co-sleeping & attachment parenting practices welcomed and supported.

With easy to follow, achievable steps, I will support you in creating a playful and light approach to improving sleep that feels kind and respectful of your child's emotional needs, while building their confidence and contentment at sleep time.
